AC power leads, also commonly referred to as an AC power cord, are electrical cords used to connect an appliance or other device to a power outlet. Generally, AC power leads are used with devices that require an alternating current (AC) supply. Typical examples of such devices include computers, monitors and office equipment. The AC power lead is made up of three components: the power plug, the power cord and the power socket. The power plug is the end of the cord that plugs into the power outlet. The power cord is the section of the cable that connects the power plug to the power socket. The power socket is the receptacle on the appliance or device that receives the power cord. AC power leads are typically rated in terms of their current handling capacity, which is usually denoted in amperes (amps).
