A rocker switch is a type of switch that is operated with a rocking motion. They are typically used to control the power on and off of devices such as fans, lights, and motors. The switch is composed of two raised contact arms connected to each other via a sliding contact bar. When the switch is pressed down, or rocked, the contact arms move against each other, forming an electrical connection and allowing power to flow. They can be momentary, meaning that the power is only on as long as the switch is depressed, or latching, meaning the power remains on or off as long as the switch is kept in the same position. Rockers switches come in a variety of sizes, shapes and appearances, and can be illuminated or non-illuminated.
